Kerry Airport to become major hub for sports fans in 2010 KERRY Airport is preparing for a Grand Slam year as a major hub for anyone who wants to travel to events of a sporting and entertainment nature in Kerry, Dublin, Britain and beyond. The Chairman of Kerry Airport, Denis Cregan, said: “This will be a major year for sports tourism in Kerry with the return of the Irish Open Golf to Killarney in July/August. Kerry Airport is looking forward to welcoming the players, media and thousands of people who will visit the county for the event. On outward routes, sports fans can rely on Kerry Airport as their gateway to sports events and rock concerts in Dublin, horse racing and soccer games in England and the European golf team’s efforts to regain the Ryder Cup in Celtic Manor, Wales.” Munster rugby legend, Ireland international and All-Ireland medal winner with Kerry, Mick Galwey was brought up only a few miles from Kerry Airport, in Currow, and he has described it as “a jewel in the Kingdom’s crown”. “Ireland will soon be hoping to repeat the Grand Slam rugby success of 2009 and it’s wonderful that fans can fly directly from Kerry to Dublin for the Italy, Wales and Scotland matches and to London-Luton or Stansted for the game against England,” said Mick Galway .
