Kerry Hospice Foundation to be Fels Point Hotel designated charity 2010

THE Kerry Hospice Foundation is to become the designated charity of the Fels Point Hotel for 2010 after a month-long public voting process saw the organisation win nearly 1600 votes – over 50% of the total.

More than 2700 votes were cast online and in Fels Point Hotel for 42 Kerry-based charities and as the overall winner, the Hospice Foundation was presented with a cash donation of €1000 from Fels Point Hotel.

The charity will be further assisted next year with the free use of the Riverview Suite function room for two fundraising events, discounted hotel accommodation and, subject to availability, the prospect of collecting money from patrons using Fels Point Hotel car park during the Rose of Tralee International Festival in 2010.

The General Manager of Fels Point Hotel, Thys Vogels, congratulated The Kerry Hospice Foundation and he thanked everyone who voted for them and the other 41 local charities. He also said that while Fels Point Hotel was keen to become a partner to one local charity in 2010, it will not exclude other charities, who are more than welcome, from using the hotel’s facilities at their own discretion during the year.

On behalf of the Kerry Hospice Foundation, Ted Moynihan paid tribute to Fels Point Hotel for giving so many Kerry-based charities an opportunity to benefit from becoming the designated charity of the hotel for 2010. He also thanked everyone who has contributed to developing and maintaining the Hospice.

“The Hospice mostly treats cancer patients and 95% of the people know somebody who has suffered from cancer and out of that number, 99% are a family member, a neighbour or friend,” Ted Moynihan said.
