| Press release – 19th October 2009 Gay Byrne backs latest road safety initiative from 24/7 Cabs Tralee GAY Byrne and the Road Safety Authority have given their backing to a new safety initiative being pioneered by Tralee Taxi company, 24/7 Cabs. Winter-time will arrive next Saturday when the clocks go back and 24/7 Cabs have decided to distribute high-visibility vests to pedestrians they meet on country roads, who are not fully visible, during the hours of darkness. The Marketing Manager of 24/7 Cabs, Kevin Finn said: “It is remarkable the number of people walking in rural and urban areas at night who haven’t taken the necessary precautions to make sure they are seen by motorists.” “For the next month we will be encouraging members of the public who may be going for a healthy walk or jog and those who may only be going to or from their local pub, to be safe and be seen at night,” he said. The Road Safety Authority have recognised the responsible approach being taken by the 24/7 Cabs team and they have issued them with 1000 high-visibility vests that will be distributed free of charge during the next month. The Chairman of the RSA, Gay Byrne, said he was impressed with the 24/7 Cabs initiative and he commended them for their efforts to promote road safety in Kerry. The former Late Late Show host met Kevin Finn while he was in Tralee for the 50 year celebrations of the Rose of Tralee International Festival. The evenings will get dark earlier after Irish winter-time begins next Saturday night. 24/7 Cabs will begin to issue the high-visibility jackets this week, ahead of the October Bank Holiday weekend.
