| TWO mad yolks from Listowel are getting into un’beat’able form ahead of the Omelette Challenge at this year’s Listowel Food Fair which will run from 2-6 November. Local author and publican Billy Keane will take on Joe Murphy from St John’s Centre on Saturday afternoon, November 5th, during the Saturday Live Kitchen at the Kerry Parents and Friends Centre, Clieveragh, Listowel. Dan Browne, Lecturer in Culinary Arts at the Institute of Technology Tralee, said: “We are inviting the public to join us for an afternoon full of mouth-watering food, great chefs and local celebrity guests competing in the exhilarating ‘Omelette Challenge’. Some lucky guests on the day will be chosen to sit at the ‘Chefs table’, where 6 people from the audience will be picked to taste the food being showcased by the Chefs. We are particularly grateful to Bord Bia for providing us with their Demo Unit for the occasion.” The Chefs who will be demonstrating their culinary skills with the Bord Bia demo unit will include: Marius Crisan Head Chef at The Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant Listowel, Jemma Ryan of Ruairis Bar Tralee & Armel Whyte of Allos Bistro Listowel. “Members of the audience will be given an opportunity to learn more from the Chefs in the Question & Answers sessions and get tips from the best in the business. Even Billy and Joe might learn something on the day. The Saturday Live Kitchen promises to be an Afternoon of live action packed cooking not to be missed by the budding MasterChef enthusiast,” said Dan Browne. This will be just one of the many wonderful events taking place during this year’s Listowel Food Fair which runs from 2-6 November with Celebrity Chef Catherine Fulvio presenting a Cooking Demonstration in the Listowel Arms Hotel on Thursday 3rd November from 8pm. Miss Universe Ireland and local lass, Aoife Hannon, will decide who the Best Dressed Person is on the night and the winner of a wonderful prize from Coco Boutique and Aoife Hannon Milliner. One lucky person will also win a FREE return trip from Kerry to Dublin with Aer Arann Regional who will be commencing their new route on November 3rd. Michelle O’Connor, Chairperson of the Listowel Food Fair Committee, said: “We are grateful to all our sponsors, including NEKD and Bord Bia who run the quality assurance mark competition involving 2nd level students. They must compile a lunch box menu using quality mark ingredients and also create and design a poster to promote the lunch box menu to students and parents alike. It is great to get them involved and creates awareness about the importance of supporting Bord Bia and the quality mark. Every year this competition gathers strength and it is wonderful to see such involvement by second level students. We are very grateful for the active involvement of Bord Bia in the Listowel Food Fair and hope it continues." Admission to the Celebration of Fine Food with Catherine Fulvio on Thursday 3rd November and the Saturday Live Kitchen on 5th November is only €15 & €10 respectively. Tickets are available from John R’s, Church Street, Listowel; McKenna’s, Market Street, Listowel; Hanrahan’s Bakery, Ballybunion; Utensils, Castle Street, Tralee; Coast, Ballybunion; or at the door on the day/night of each event.
