| IT’S a case of being in the right place at the right time is how best to describe the success of the Tralee Tourist Kiosk which received over 4,000 enquiries in its first month. Over 60 volunteers from all walks of life took their turn to hand out leaflets, booklets and maps to tourists and locals who visited the booth which was erected in The Mall at the start of August. Kieran Ruttledge of Holiday Tralee said: “The Tourist Kiosk was a tremendous success and it certainly served its purpose as an additional signpost to the many wonderful attractions, shops, restaurants and accommodation providers in Tralee and the surrounding areas. In one month alone there were over 4,000 enquiries and many of these were directed to the Tourist office in the Ashe Memorial Hall and Museum. Great credit must be given to the co-ordinators of the project, Marcus Howlett and David Moran, and to all the people who gave freely of their time to help promote our town.” The Historical Society in Tralee has now come on board to provide the volunteers with further background information on Tralee with a view to establishing guided walks in Tralee. The information seminars will be held in the Grand Hotel Tralee at no cost to the organisers or the participants. The Tralee Tourist Kiosk group also intends to branch out into Genealogy helping Tourists when they come to find their family roots and there will be classes held in the library in the archive section, during the winter by the Town Archivist Michael Lynch. Further information is available from Billy Nolan. They are scheduled to commence next Spring and they will incorporate some of the town’s key historical landmarks,” said Kieran Ruttledge.
