| THE Rose of Tralee may have been a big hit with the TV viewers this year but the Festival website nearly went into meltdown during August with the massive increase in the number of visitors to the site. Communications Manager for the Rose of Tralee International Festival, John Drummey, said: “There were 80,354 visits to the site which is up 15% on the same time last year. This is a significant increase considering that we celebrated 50 years of the Festival in 2009 and it indicates the widespread appeal of the Rose of Tralee to a worldwide audience. The increase in website traffic should bring with it a positive knock-on effect for businesses in Tralee and Kerry as a whole. Our sponsors also benefitted with a considerable number of onward clicks to their sites directly from the Rose of Tralee website.” The majority of visits to the site were from August 16th, the time the Roses first met in Dublin, to the time they said goodbye to each other in Tralee on August 26th. Each visitor spent an average of 4.5 minutes on www.roseoftralee.ie. Excluding the homepage, the majority of visitors were drawn to the “latest news” and the “International Roses” pages which attracted 79,455 visits. There was considerable interest in the “programme of events” listings. “The Rose of Tralee International Festival website drew in excess of 55,000 visits from Ireland with a particular focus from Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Galway and Tralee. The importance of the Rose of Tralee as an international Festival was underlined by the fact that over 25,000 visits were from people in other countries, many of which were not represented in the Rose selection (Holland, Thailand, India, Spain & France). We also see the importance of growing our friendship network and now the festival has over 3,700 friends on Facebook,” said John Drummey. RoseofTralee.ie is updated regularly with special links to Clare Kambamettu’s weekly diary in which she details her experiences as the reigning Rose. The website also generates a lot of interest from prospective Roses and Escorts during the winter months.
