| TRALEE man Robbie Costelloe (26) has won the Newbridge Silverware Escort of the Year Award at the 2010 Rose of Tralee International Festival. The Escort to Martha Gilheaney, the Leitrim Rose, Robbie is a translator for Reuters in Limerick and he was representing the Derry Rose Centre at this year’s Festival. Robbie described his selection as “an honour and a privilege especially being a local man”. Dáithí Ó Sé announced the result in the Festival Dome and live on RTÉ television last night. Robbie has a languages degree and can speak French, Spanish and German. He plays the saxophone and guitar and he plays in several bands in Limerick. A keen soccer player, he also enjoys tag rugby and watching Munster rugby. He says he likes a joke, meeting people and is very patient. He ran/limped the Florence marathon and is widely travelled. In the future, Robbie would like to teach in South America, and go to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup. There are 32 Escorts at this year’s Festival with Gareth McGreevy (Belfast) and Colm Power (Galway) also shortlisted for the top honour of Newbridge Silverware Escort of the Year. Meanwhile, the 2010 Rose of Tralee will be selected tonight in the Festival Dome. RTÉ will broadcast the event live from 8pm.
